Conjugation of verb conocer
The verb conocer is translated as to know, meaning to know something, a person, or a place. In other cases it can be translated as to meet, and be familiar with.
The verb conocer is irregular only in the first person singular (Yo) of the Present Tense and it follows the regular conjugation for -ER verbs for the Preterit, Imperfect and Future Tenses.

Meanings of the verb Conocer
Two Spanish verbs, Saber and Conocer are translated into English as the verb "to Know". They represent two different types of "knowing", and they are used in completely different situations. We have already studied the conjugation of verb saber, and explained the difference.

We use Conocer when :
1) we talk about places we are familiar with
Examples:
Conocí Barcelona por primera vez el año pasado.
I met Barcelona for the first time last year.
Gabriela conoce Perú muy bien, porque vivió allí.
Gabriela knows Peru very well, because she lived there.
2) talking about someone we know. In this case we must use the spanish
preposition "a" after the verb :
Conocimos a la hermana de Juan en el casamiento.
We met Juan's sister at the wedding.
Conoces a Juan?
Do you know Juan?
3) talking about general concepts or subjects :
No conozco las leyes de inmigración de Francia.
I'm not familiar with the immigration laws of France.
Conozco la obra de J.L. Borges, la estudié en la Universidad.
I´m familiar with J.L.Borges work, I studied it at the University.
Expressions with verb CONOCER
conocer a fondo – know like a book
conocer como la "palma de mi mano" – know as the back of one´s hand
conocer de vista – know by sight
conocer el tema a fondo – we well versed on the subject
conocer sus limitaciones– know one's limitations
